Broom - where community matters

Play and Youth Project

In 1997 the Broom Community Forum set up a new and innovative Play & Youth Project.   The Project aims to promote positive play and use of leisure time by children and young people in Broom.

The Forum believes this will compliment the programme of physical improvements and recognises the importance of play within the local community.

PLAYGIGS

PLAYGIGS

PLAYGIGS

Work with Primary school aged children includes Playgigs which take place at different corners of the

Broom estate where children meet to play. These neighbourhood play sessions held throughout the spring and summer months encourage co-operation in play as well as a sense of ownership of the estate through a variety of new and traditional games.

Positive Play in Schools

Project staff are working with children in two of the local primary schools to encourage positive play in the playgrounds.  Plans are developing to roll this programme out across communities of Levenmouth.

Detached YOUTH WORK

Project staff engage with young people on the streets of Broom and other neighbouring communities. While building relationships

the youth workers are able to provide information & advice and assist the young people to explore ways of addressing issues and concerns.
